As I have gotten older, it has become more and more clear to me that there are no such things as accidents. There are no ‘accidents waiting to happen’, nothing is an accident. Everything DOES happen for a reason, EVERYTHING. The word accident is used by people when they refuse to accept responsibility for their actions.
What about a car wreck?
No, a car wreck is not an accident it is a consequence. Someone is ALWAYS responsible, whether we refuse to acknowledge it or not. In a car wreck one of the drivers may have been going over the speed limit, or the other was too busy looking at your phone and not paying attention to the road, those actions caused the wreck, it was not an accident, it was a consequence!
I got a flat tire and lost control of the vehicle.
When was the last time you got your tires checked? Have you been keeping up with the recommended rotation every three to five thousand miles? Assume you had brand new tires, a nail on the road perforated one of them and caused it to explode, that wasn’t your fault right? It was an accident! No! it was not an accident, it was a consequence caused by the person that dropped that nail and ended on the road, punctured the tire and caused you to lose control of your vehicle. If you analyze any situation deep enough, you will always find someone responsible for what we call an accident.
The difference between a child and an adult is the adult’s ability to understand that good or bad, every single choice made has a consequence. Sometimes that consequence does not appear right away but it will at some point. Not every choice you make will always be the best one and people do learn from their mistakes every single time, they just refuse to acknowledge it, and that’s also a choice.
Ever hear someone say, “it’s never too late?” That’s also not true, sometimes “IT IS TOO LATE!” You have to work hard and think carefully before you make any decision. This is YOUR LIFE, you cannot stop this train and you can’t just jump off. As time passes the train of life gains momentum and it goes fast, very fast. Go ahead, avoid your responsibility and jump off the train just like you did when you were a kid. Find out the hard way that the consequence of your decision will be so painful you’ll wish it was just bruises and broken bones. This is YOUR life, YOUR train, the ride is a bumpy one and it gets worse before it gets better, but stay focused, ride it out, and in the end, you’ll be surprised what you can live through.
